Food Sharing Platforms: Emerging Evidence from Italian and German Users

Among the most challenging problems of 21st century, fight against food waste and losses is still one biggest concerns researchers policy makers are trying to solve. The latest United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)’s report (UNEP, 2021) estimates that around 931 million tons were generated in 2019, majority came from households. As a consequence negative social, economic environmental effects this phenomenon, numerous actions have been launched by policymakers aiming try reduce volume also through donation surplus food. At same time, digital transformation advent sharing economy boosted launch startups with disruptive business models creating secondary market for distribution surplus, thus spread practice sustainable collaborative consumption. Extant literature on topic relatively new. Despite few recent attempts study platforms, our knowledge limited (either terms platforms considered users’ nationality). This paper aims therefore at shedding new light proposed issue providing first attempt behavior Italian German users platforms. Data collected an ad-hoc developed survey analyzed cluster analysis preliminary results about habits discussed.
